Corporate event design for the DMV

Galas, awards nights, grand openings, and branded rooms for associations, employers, and cultural organizations.

PMI Washington DC Chapter 2026 conference general session at JW Marriott Reston: panel on white lounge seating before a branded stage, guests at navy-draped round tables with floral centerpieces

Creative Motion Events designs corporate events for organizations across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Fayola Whyte-Manco leads the work as Founder and Creative Director. From galas and awards ceremonies to grand openings, employee celebrations, and branded experiences, the aim is an environment people feel, and an organization they remember. The corporate overview is the short version. This page is how the design itself is approached.

The agenda and the room have to be designed together. A general session needs a stage people can see. An awards night needs tables that can hold a program. An opening needs an entry that photographs clearly, because that picture is often what the public will see.

Galas and awards nights

Associations and nonprofits often need a room that can hold a program and still feel like a milestone. The pieces are a creative concept, a branded stage, tablescapes, an entrance, vendor direction, and on-site execution. Design fees and production expenses are quoted separately, so a committee can see the design on its own line.

The PMI Washington DC Chapter wanted its annual gala to feel like the milestone it was: sponsor-worthy, and calm for a volunteer committee. Creative Motion Events designed the room at JW Marriott Reston in October 2026 and was the chapter’s one point of contact. Navy tables, orchid centerpieces, and the lit 2026 PMIWDC Conference stage set the ballroom. A balloon garland framed the welcome panel. A signage tower thanked sponsors and exhibitors and pointed guests toward the lounge and the meeting rooms. Custom logo cookies, tied with purple ribbon, carried the conference mark onto a favor guests could take.

Grand openings and brand moments

Brands and local businesses use a grand opening when the first impression has to work for guests and for the marketing team afterward. Able Health Services opened in Hanover, Maryland, with a red carpet, a ribbon cutting, and branded balloon columns. The design was built around the places people would stand and the pictures they would take. Those pictures are the album.

The PNC Bank grand opening in Wheaton, Maryland, was a branch moment: exterior and entry design for a corporate host on a real timeline. It sits beside Hanover in the grand opening albums because corporate event design is not one room type. A bank branch and a healthcare lobby ask for different gestures. Both still need a point of view, a palette, and an entry that tells a guest they are in the right place.

Appreciation nights and cultural celebrations

Employers and HR teams come to the studio for holiday events, team recognition, and company milestones. An appreciation night is often the one time a year an organization thanks people without a memo. The journal piece Employee Appreciation Events in the DMV describes the design order we use: the feeling first, then light and wayfinding, then one strong gathering place rather than ten small touches that no one remembers.

Embassies and cultural organizations bring a different brief. Receptions need to honor tradition and identity, and still feel hosted. The design has to be specific to that community, not a template with a logo swapped in.

A year of events, still designed one by one

Organizations with three or more events a year can work through an Annual Design Partnership. You share the calendar and agree on a twelve-month commitment. Every event still has its own proposal, design fee, and production budget. There is no separate annual membership fee, and outside vendors are budgeted on that event.

Corporate event design can stand next to corporate event planning, or the same studio can hold both. Planning is the calendar, the vendors, and the approvals. Design is what the room looks like once those decisions are made. Many organizations want both, from one person, which is how Fayola works. If you are comparing approaches, event design is the broader note on tables, stages, and private celebrations. This page stays with the organization.
